Josef Mühlenbrock

Josef Mühlenbrock (* 1968 in Haltern am See ) is an archaeologist . From 2008 to 2018 he headed the LWL Museum for Archeology in Herne and has been the head of the LWL Roman Museum in Haltern am See since 2018 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Josef Mühlenbrock studied archeology, ancient history, Latin and art history at the University of Münster / Westphalia . During his studies he worked on excavations in Westphalia and then as a scientific consultant in Münster and Haltern. Before moving to the museum in Herne, he worked in a managerial position at the LWL-Roman Museum in Haltern am See. Mühlenbrock was there, among other things, the project manager of the Herculanaeum exhibition and prepared the Varus Battle project . He received his doctorate in archeology on Roman architecture in 1997 . In the LWL Museum of Archeology, he designed the exhibition Errors and forgeries in archeology . After ten years as museum director in Herne, Mühlenbrock took over the management of the Roman Museum in Haltern on September 1, 2018.
