Josef Mach (director)

Josef Mach (born February 25, 1909 in Proßnitz , Moravia , Austria-Hungary , † July 7, 1987 in Prague ) was a Czech scriptwriter and film director .

life and work

At the beginning of his career, Josef Mach worked as a journalist and stage actor when he was offered an assistant director for short films at Grafo Filmstudios in 1938. He later also worked as a screenwriter and film director for the Barrandov film studios in what was then Czechoslovakia . In the mid-1960s he accepted an invitation from DEFA to direct an Indian film. The result was the first of the so-called DEFA Indian films The Sons of the Great Bear , which made Gojko Mitić a star in East Germany.
