Josef Neumann (politician, 1852)

Josef Neumann (born March 22, 1852 in Neu-Straschitz , † March 16, 1915 in Stupčice ) was a Czech politician and railway official. He was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives and a member of the Old Czechs .

Life

Josef Neumann was born the son of a master tailor in Neu-Straschitz. He graduated from the Czech and German technical college in Prague and subsequently served in a pioneer regiment in Prague, where he retired non-commissioned officers. He entered the service of the Bohemian Western Railway in 1875 and worked between 1877 and 1879 as a station director in Beraun . In 1895 he moved to the Prague State Railway Directorate as a senior engineer, where he was promoted to the position of Central Inspector and Head of the Department for Construction and Railway Maintenance. He was also a member of the examination committee for the second state examination in construction and engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, vice-president of the permanent delegation of the fifth Austrian engineering and architects' day and a substitute member of the Association of Engineers of the Austrian State Railways .

Neumann ran for the Old Czechs in the 1907 Reichsrat election in the electoral district of Bohemia 8 (Smíchov I) and was able to prevail in the runoff election against the candidate of the Czech National Social Party , Václav Klofáč . In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Neumann was able to prevail with around 61.3 percent of the vote in the first ballot. He died in 1915 while taking a spa stay in Stupčice near Tábor .
