Josef Oxfort (born February 12, 1923 in Fulda ; † June 24, 1996 in Stuttgart ) was a German civil engineer.

biography

Oxfort was a pilot in the Luftwaffe from 1940 to 1944 and studied aircraft technology at the Air Force Technical Academy in Berlin-Gatow from 1944 . In 1945 he studied civil engineering instead at the TH Darmstadt , graduating in 1951. His most important teacher was Kurt Klöppel . He then worked in bridge construction in the construction industry, initially at Dortmunder Union Brückenbau, where he became deputy head and authorized representative of the building construction department, and later at Rheinstahl Union Brückenbau AG. Most recently he was also responsible for special tasks in the entire steel construction sector and computer applications. In 1960 he did his doctorate externally with Klöppel and Udo Wegener in Darmstadt (dissertation: on the limitation of the load-bearing capacity of a statically indeterminate rigid structure made of structural steel due to the unstable balance ). In 1969 he succeeded Walter Pelikan as professor for steel and wood construction at the University of Stuttgart . In 1988 he retired.

One focus of his research was crane track construction.
