Josef Paul Puntigam

Josef Paul Puntigam (born January 25, 1947 in Neusetz, Straden municipality ) is a former Austrian brigadier .

Career

Puntigam completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural manager before joining the Jäger Battalion 17 in Straß in Styria . After his assignment as a group and company commander , he became class commander at the Theresian Military Academy and advanced to regimental , brigade and school commanders. As part of his military training, he completed special training with the special forces of the US Army or in special units of the German Federal Armed Forcesas part of the training exchange. Between 1986 and 2004, he taught leadership and organization at the military academy. Under his leadership, the first women entered the armed forces in 1989.

During the Slovenian War of Independence in June / July 1991, Puntigam took over border security tasks in the Austro-Slovenian border area as the commander of a regimental armored task force. The unit, consisting of 1,600 men, was a " task force " made up of all of Austria and had no losses whatsoever, although there were heavy fighting and some airspace violations on the Slovenian side in the immediate vicinity of the border.

For the last six years he was the commander of the hunting school before he retired after 42 years. Since then he has dedicated himself to training young managers and executives in civil society. From 2008 to 2019 he was also president of the military parachutist association Ostarrichi .

meaning

As head of the infantry of the Austrian Armed Forces, Puntigam was responsible for the entire officer and non-commissioned officer training of the infantry, for the mountain guide , ski instructor and sniper training as well as for the creation of relevant regulations and their testing. He is one of the few officers who did all the special assignments of the armed forces from paratroopers , mountain fighters , hunting commandos to training officers for various special training courses.

As an expert in leadership training, leadership, teaching methodology, special training, survivability and perseverance, he has published several relevant specialist articles.
