Josef Pfeifer (born July 4, 1933 in Platt (municipality of Zellerndorf) ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and was a member of the National Council from 1966 to 1988 .

education and profession

Josef Pfeifer was born in 1933 as a farmer's son. After attending primary school in Platt and secondary school in Zellerndorf, he attended the agricultural advanced training school in 1947 and 1948 and the agricultural technical school from 1949 to 1950. Then he visited the people's education center in Graschnitz . In addition, he worked on his parents' farm as a farm worker from 1947, which he also took over in 1958. He was also active as an economics councilor.

In addition, Pfeifer worked as a dialect poet together with Lois Schiferl at RAVAG. He also worked as a functionary in the rural training center and as chairman of the Catholic youth .

politics

In 1959 Josef Pfeifer joined the SPÖ and was elected mayor of the municipality of Platt in 1960. After the amalgamation with the municipality of Zellerndorf, he was elected Vice Mayor of the new amalgamated municipality until 1970. He then worked as a councilor in Zellerndorf until 1975. In addition, from 1967 he was district chairman of the SPÖ in the Hollabrunn district . He has been honorary chairman since 1987. In addition, he served on the SPÖ's state party executive from 1966 to 2009. From 1999 to 2011 he was district chairman of the pensioners' association and a member of the state board.

From 1966 to 1988 he was also a member of the Austrian National Council. As part of this he was the agricultural spokesman for the SPÖ.

He has been a member of the SPÖ farmers since 1960 and was state chairman from 1981 to 1993, two years as national chairman.

Private

Josef Pfeifer has been married to Ilse Fabich since 1958. This marriage resulted in two sons, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
