Josef Reither (poet)
Josef Reither , also Reiter, Reitter, Reuter, Reutter (born January 8, 1750 in Weinberg ; † May 29, 1809 in St. Florian ), was an Austrian religious priest ( Augustinian canon ) and Christian lyric poet .
Life
At the age of 17, Josef Reither joined the St. Florian Monastery and thus the Congregation of the Austrian Augustinian Canons . In 1773 he was ordained a priest . Afterwards he was pastor in the parishes incorporated into the monastery . From 1775 on, he was also in charge of the monastery collections as curator .
Reither wrote numerous religious songs based on well-known melodies, as well as patriotic ones, which were published as single prints by Linz and Vienna publishers.
