The vineyard (approx. 670 m above sea level ) is located directly northeast above Kefermarkt, between Feldaist and the lowest loop of the Flanitz , which then continues to flow parallel and only flows 3 kilometers south into the Feldaist. It is the castle and church hill of Kefermarkt.
The localities include almost 30 buildings with about 80 inhabitants, a group around today's Weinberg Castle , as well as about 1 ⁄ 3 in scattered houses in Lasberger municipality, where the homestead Kaufleiten near Elz and the localities down near Flanitztal and north on the Weinberger Bach this includes.
Today the place itself has largely grown together with the local situation Schloßberg / Kirchberg around the parish and pilgrimage church .

History and infrastructure
Weinberg Castle was built as early as the 13th century after the clearing of the surrounding forest was completed. The first documentary mention was made in 1305, when the Piber von den Weinperge were named as the owner of the sovereign fiefdom of the dominion of Freistadt . The place name refers to the medieval viticulture that was possible here at the time of the medieval optimum .
In 1359 and 1378 the castle came into the possession of the Zelkingers . They increased the rule of Weinberg considerably through acquisitions and thus became important landlords in the region. Christoph von Zelking († 1491) was also the keeper of Freistadt. In his time, the parish church including the late Gothic winged altar was built below . From 1510, after the sovereign feudal sovereignty was lifted under Emperor Maximilian I , the rule of Weinberg became a free property .
In the time of the Turkish threat (1594), the castle was expanded like a fortress as a fortress . During the Upper Austrian Peasants' War (1626), peasants took the castle after long battles. The Protestant Zelkingers were forced to leave the castle in the course of the Counter Reformation , and in 1629 it was given to the Thürheimers zu Ebelsberg . The first Thürheimer had the old castle rebuilt into today's palace.
In the 1820s, Weinberg was the seat of a district commission , which was responsible for the parishes of Kefermarkt , Lasberg , St. Oswald and Neumarkt . Already with the creation of the tax communities at this time and then with the abolition of the landlords and the creation of the local communities in 1848/49 , the property came to Kefermarkt, the outskirts to Lasberg. By 1827 the village had 13 houses, 22 tenants and 84 residents.
In 1945, at the end of the Second World War , Soviet soldiers ravaged and looted the castle, so that the main building was no longer habitable. Between 1946 and 1954, the castle served as a training home for the construction and woodworkers 'union, and for a short time also as a children's recreation home for the war victims' association. After the Thürheim family died out in 1961, the castle fell into disrepair, was taken over by the "Schloss Weinberg" association in 1983 and leased in 1986 by the state of Upper Austria. In 1988 the state exhibition The Mühlviertel - Nature, Culture, Life took place. The state education and music center has been located here since 1989, and a brewery pub in the historic stables of the 400-year-old Meierhof. Today Weinberg is an important regional cultural center with a wide range of offers.
