Unterrauchenödt is about 4½ kilometers east of Freistadt in the valley area of the Feldaist , between Lasberg in the south and Grünbach in the north, on the B38  Böhmerwald Straße , at an altitude of  750  m above sea level. A.

The two localities only have 10 buildings with around 30 inhabitants. The local area includes the individual layers Nadelhöf in Lasberg, as well as Pischinger, Schwaighofer, Zimmerhofer in Grünbach.

The area is counted as part of the Freiwald (Gratzener Bergland) , which stretches up towards the Waldviertel and Bohemia ( Freiwald and Weinsberger Wald ). The road climbs relatively steeply over Oberrauchenödt to the plateau of the Weinsbergholz. The Zelletau Bach to Feldaist in Freistadt begins right there, as does the Keferbach trench , a small tributary of the Feistritz near St. Oswald (the brook is still intermittent here ).

history

The place name comes from the former community Rauchödt , which originated in 1850 and was added to the local community Grünbach in 1874. The name means 'rough wasteland', the -öd / et -names show a resettlement in the second clearing phase of the High Middle Ages (11th – 15th centuries), which is also represented in the many -schlag - clearing names in the area.
