Lichtenau is a village and a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Grünbach in Upper Austria .
The village in the Lower Mühlviertel is located on the L 1482 state road a little east of Rainbach in the Mühlkreis , to which it is much better connected than the other localities in the Grünbach community. The place is first mentioned in 1270 as Lichtenowe . After the reforms of 1848/1849 , Lichtenau constituted itself in 1850 as an independent municipality. This was assigned to the Freistadt district until 1868 and then to the Freistadt district . Together with Rauchödt , the union with Grünbach took place in 1874 to form today's municipality. On January 1, 2020, Lichtenau had 319 inhabitants.
