history
From 1270 to 1286 Grinpach, Lichtenowe, Plage and Rauchödt were first mentioned. Since Grünbach was within a mile ( mile right ) around Freistadt, no town houses and thus no market town could develop. The Grünbach parish was first mentioned in 1309 and was one of the largest parishes in Upper Austria at that time. Between 1376 and 1380 farmsteads in the Grünbach area were first mentioned . Heinrichschlag is mentioned for the first time in 1387, followed by Paßberg in 1392 and Helbetschlag in 1413. The Hussites destroyed the church in St. Michael ob Rauchödt in 1422. In 1483, Bernhard Graf von Tyernstein sold his possessions in and around Grünbach to Ulrich von Starhemberg . With the donation from the will of the Freistadt citizen Georg Fuchsöder , money is available for the expansion of the parish church and the church of St. Michael. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
In 1526 the place consisted of 6 houses, 16 houses are in Helbetschlag, 18 in Paßberg, 4 in Lichtenau and 2 in Schlag. In 1578 the Starhemberg possessions in Grünbach are sold to Joachim Stängl, the keeper of the Freistadt rulership. In the years 1610/11, the Hagersche war people with 1,500 foot servants moved through the municipality and caused a famine. In the Upper Austrian Peasants' War in 1626, Grünbach farmers fought in the ranks of the rebels. With the sale of the rule Weinberg from the Zelkinger to the Thürheimer , the ownership rights changed again, before the offices came back to the Starhemberger until 1850 in 1636. In 1656 the parish came under the jurisdiction of the St. Florian Monastery . In 1705 the parish of Windhaag was separated, and in 1738 the parish of Sandl was separated. In 1787 the first school building was built. In 1827 Grünbach comprised 48 houses.
After the basic relief in 1850, three communities emerged in what is now the municipality - Grünbach, Rauchödt and Lichtenau . In 1874 these 3 communities were merged. Between 1894 and 1904 the volunteer fire brigades Lichtenau, Grünbach and Rauchödt were founded. As the old school building became too small, the new school was built in 1912. In 1929 the first person from Grünbach owned a car. In 1936 the Helbetschlag volunteer fire brigade was founded.
After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . In 1940 electricity was introduced in Grünbach. After 1945 Grünbach belonged to the Soviet occupation zone and was occupied for four months. In 1954 the parish hall was rebuilt, which was too small by 1968 and was therefore rebuilt.
In 1988 the recreational pond was built by the Freiwaldteich Grünbach association after only three years of construction and planning . Since then, the pond has shaped the entire townscape.
