Etzelsdorf is located about 4½ kilometers east of Freistadt in the Feldaist valley , northwest of St. Oswald. The area includes the middle trench of the Keferbach , a small tributary of the Feistritz , at heights of  670  m above sea level. A. The stream itself only rises in the lower part of the trench, in the upper reaches it is intermittent .

The two localities have almost 50 buildings with around 400 inhabitants, the majority of which live in the St. Oswald village. The hamlet of Grub and the Gottschaler single site in Lasberg, as well as the actual town of Etzelsdorf and the Modlbauer single site , today's Rannahof youth and hiking hostel , in St. Oswald belong to the local area .

The area in the south-west is counted as part of the Central Mühlviertel highlands , the north-east as part of the Freiwald (Gratzener Bergland) , which stretches up towards the Waldviertel and Bohemia ( Freiwald and Weinsberger Wald ).

tourism

The area is a popular hiking and mountain biking area. The Naturfreundehaus is an important base here. The Europaweg E6 (Finland – Turkey, here also the Austrian long-distance hiking trail 05, the north-south path and also 705, the north forest ridge path ) crosses from Bad Leonfelden- Freistadt further up into the Waldviertel .
