Josef Siegwart

Josef Siegwart OP (born April 23, 1929 in Altdorf UR ; † December 17, 2011 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a Swiss religious and church historian .

Life

Siegwart, born in 1929 in Altdorf, joined in 1951 the Congregation of the Dominicans at and received four years later the priesthood . He did his doctorate and habilitation in theology and taught from 1966 as a private lecturer and from 1967 associate professor at the Université de Friborg . In 1972, he received a call to full professor of Medieval and Modern Church History at the Theological Faculty of the University of Freiburg. From 1974 to 1975 he was dean of the theological faculty. In 1996 he retired.

Siegwart died on December 17, 2011 of complications from a heart condition.
