Overall system

The Klösterle in Innerteuchen in the municipality of Arriach in Carinthia is a former mission station , today apart from the church in private ownership.

history

The Hieronymites founded a hospice in Innerteuchen to combat secret Protestantism and a monastery in 1754 on behalf of Empress Maria Theresa , which was abolished in 1786 as part of the Josephine reforms . However, a hieronymite remained as curate for pastoral care in Innerteuchen. Extensive interior and exterior restorations have been carried out since the transition to private ownership in 2008.

The church was consecrated as a monastery church to the Holy Cross in 1768 and converted into a parish church in 1792. The small, south-facing church forms the east wing of the former monastery complex.

The wooden roof turret with onion helmet was added in 1794. The choir has moved in slightly. The windows are arched, the portal has a pressed arch. The roof is clapboard.

In the two-bay nave, a groin vault with girdle arches rises above simple Tuscan pilasters . The wooden gallery stands on two pillars. A round arched triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir. The square choir with a straight end is groin vaulted, as is the sacristy to the west .

Facility

The furnishings originate from the third third of the 18th century. The main picture of the high altar shows the crucifixion of Christ, flanked by the figures of St. Jerome and three religious saints. The carved figure of God the Father is attached to the top . The high altar picture and the altar frame were created by Peter Kröll in 1766.

The picture on the left side altar represents St. Nicholas . It is flanked by statues of Saint Anne on the left and Joachim on the right. In front of it in a small shrine there is a so-called Infant Jesus of Prague .

The picture on the right side altar from 1758 is inscribed with Josef Ferdinand Fromiller and shows the donor's coat of arms of the Lodron family . In the tabernacle-like shrine there is a relic of the cross behind glass, which gave the church its name. Assistant figures are Maria and Joseph.

The pulpit was created in the third quarter of the 18th century.

Monastery building

The monastery building is an angular, late baroque two-storey two-wing complex with four or nine window axes. The west wing was probably extended to the north under curate Bartholomäus Lewitschnig (1838-1851). The roof is clapboard. The north facade has baroque architectural decor. The corridor on the ground floor is vaulted with groin vaults, on one side of the corridor are the former monastery cells with basket arch doors. From here you can also get to a two-seater toilet. A staircase running in the opposite direction leads to the upper floor. This has a flat ceiling and straight lintels. From here a door leads to the church gallery.
