Josef Strommer

Josef Strommer (born February 18, 1903 in Mold ; † July 29, 1964 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP / ÖVP ) and farmer. Strommer was a member of the Federal Council in 1934, from 1934 to 1938 a member of the Lower Austrian State Parliament and from 1945 to 1962 a member of the National Council .

Life

Strommer attended grammar school after elementary school and then graduated from the agricultural high school in Mödling. In 1937 he took over his father's farm. Between April 27, 1934 and May 2, 1934, Strommer represented the Christian Social Party in the Federal Council ( IV legislative period ), after which he was representative of agriculture and forestry in the Lower Austrian state parliament from November 22, 1934 and March 12, 1938 . After the National Socialists came to power, Strommer was arrested several times for political reasons between 1938 and 1945. After the end of the Second World War, Strommer joined the newly founded People's Party and was Mayor of Mold between 1945 and 1950 . Subsequently, he was Vice Mayor from 1955 to 1964, and from 1945 to 1950 chairman of the Horn District Chamber of Farmers. Strommer was involved in the Chamber of Agriculture and was initially Vice-President of the Chamber of Agriculture of Lower Austria in 1945 . From 1950 to 1962 he was its president. Furthermore, Strommer held the office of chairman of the President's Conference of the Chambers of Agriculture between 1950 and 1962. Strommer was a member of the National Council from December 19, 1945 to June 5, 1962 ( V , VI , VII , VIII and IX legislative periods ). He was awarded the professional title of Economics Council.

Others

His son Heribert Strommer (1936–2011) was mayor of the municipality of Rosenburg-Mold from 1971 to 1997 . In Horn , Josef-Strommer-Straße is named after him.
