Josef Wolf (diplomat)

Josef Theodor Wolf (born August 29, 1938 ; † December 12, 2014 ) was a Liechtenstein diplomat .

Life

He studied philology and received his doctorate . Wolf then worked as a teacher and from 1963 to 1970, in addition to his main subjects German and philosophy, was the first Liechtenstein teacher to also teach Latin , history and English . From 1970 to 1991 he was head of the Liechtenstein Education Authority. From 1968 to 1969 he was substitute judge and from 1969 to 1974 judge at the State Court of the Principality of Liechtenstein . Later he was the permanent representative of Liechtenstein at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . In December 2002 he became ambassador to Germany. After initially being a non-resident ambassador, in 2003 he became the first resident ambassador to the Liechtenstein embassy in Berlin . At the end of 2006 he retired.

He belonged to the Historical Association for the Principality of Liechtenstein, to which he served as a cashier on the board from 1965 to 1990.

In 1965 he married Ingeborg Meier (* 1939). The marriage resulted in a son (* 1968) and a daughter (* 1973).

Awards

In 2002, Pope John Paul II awarded Wolf the Order of Gregory in silver for the defense of basic Christian values ​​and his advocacy of a Christian approach to current problems in Europe.
