Josef Zingl

Josef Zingl (born February 18, 1883 in Schäffern , Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district , Styria ; † November 23, 1965 there ) was an Austrian politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP) and later the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP).

biography

After attending elementary school , Zingl worked as a cooper after completing his vocational training , before taking over his father's farm in 1910 and becoming a farmer .

In addition, he began a political career in the CSP and was mayor of his native Schäffern community. He was also a member of the Styrian Landtag from 1920 to 1930 . He then became a member of the Austrian National Council on December 2, 1930 and was a member of it until the end of the fourth legislative period on May 2, 1934.

After the dissolution of the CSP and its incorporation into the Vaterländische Front in 1934, he ended his political activity and was arrested on March 12, 1938 in 1944 because of his Christian social attitude after the annexation of Austria and then served a prison sentence of several weeks.

After the end of the Second World War he became a member of the Federal Council on January 31, 1946 and was a member of it until the end of the fifth legislative period on November 5, 1949. During this time, Josef Zingl was President of the Austrian Federal Council from January 1 to June 30, 1949 .
