Josep Amargós i Samaranch
Josep Amargós i Samaranch (* 1849 in Barcelona ; † 1918 there ) was a Catalan architect who is considered one of the fathers of modernism .
He was initially a builder and only then acquired the title of architect.
In Barcelona he was particularly active as an urban planner, especially in the area of Montjuïc : Poble Sec town planning at the foot of Montjuïc, together with Narcís Arán and Josep Fontserè (1870); Award-winning urbanization project on Montjuïc (1894, later carried out in some major changes in the course of the 1929 World Exhibition ); and a complex, unrealized design for the redesign of the Plaça d'Espanya (1915).
Josep Amargós was an assistant professor at the Escola de Belles Arts, but did not fulfill his appointment as full professor.
Works
His most important realized projects are:
- Hibernacle (greenhouse) in Parc de la Ciutadella (1884), built for the Barcelona World's Fair in 1888
- Water tower ( Torre de les Aigües de Dos Rius 1902) on the Tibidabo in Barcelona
- central water pumping station (1903–1907) in Cornellà de Llobregat , Barcelona (since 2004 Agbar Water Museum)
