The Western Mediterranean Anemone ( Anemone palmata ), also hand-shaped Anemone called, is a plant of the genus Anemone ( Anemone ).

features

The western Mediterranean anemone is a perennial, herbaceous tuber that reaches heights of up to 15 centimeters. The basal leaves are slightly three-lobed and kidney to almost circular. The stem leaves each have 3 to 5 linear-lanceolate sections. The 10 to 15 bracts are yellow.

The flowering period extends from May to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16 or 32.

Occurrence

The western Mediterranean anemone occurs in the western Mediterranean on heaths and pastures on alkaline and acidic soils in Portugal, Spain, Sardinia, Sicily, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, and earlier also in France.

use

The western Mediterranean anemone is rarely used as an ornamental plant for alpine houses and rock gardens in warm areas. It has been in culture since at least 1564. The 'Flore Pleno' variety has double flowers.
