Josep Olivet i Legares

Josep Olivet i Legares (* 1887 in Olot ; † 1956 in Barcelona ) was a Catalan painter who followed the tradition of the Olot School .

life and work

Josep Olivet i Legares studied at the Art School in Olot and from 1911 to 1912 at the Acadèmia Galí in Barcelona. He later continued his studies in Rome at the Regio Instituto de Belle Arti and Madrid with José María López Mezquita .

Josep Olivet i Legares took part in the National Exhibition in Madrid in 1915 and had a solo exhibition in the Faianç Català in Barcelona in 1916 . From then on he sold his pictures at annual exhibitions in Olot and Barcelona. Josep Olivet i Legares is considered an outstanding landscape painter in Catalonia. His work is characterized by the best technology and a unique charm of passion and feeling. He further developed the landscape painting school of Olot in a line of Enric Galwey in great richness and bright colors. Vicenç Solé i Jorba then took up this traditional line creatively.
