The Joseph-Bernhart-Gymnasium (also JBG for short ) is a state advanced educational institution named after Joseph Bernhart (1881-1969) in Türkheim in the Upper Swabian district of Unterallgäu . The school offers four foreign languages, three school choirs, two school bands, a string orchestra, a cafeteria and various elective courses or working groups. There is also an observatory. Currently (as of October 31, 2019) there are 20 classes (without qualification phases Q11 and Q12).

Training directions

The JBG offers not only scientific-technological but also modern-language training. The economics high school will be run as the third course from the 2010/11 school year. In addition to English, the foreign languages ​​Latin, French and Spanish are offered. In the school year 2009/10 the Joseph-Bernhart-Gymnasium offered the project “Choir Classes” for the first time.

Building / plant

The three-story main building, which consists of the basic building and the first, larger, extension, is built in a modern style and connects to a double sports hall. In the east of the school there is a soccer field , a 400 m track, diving pits, facilities for hammer throwing and shot put, two beach volleyball fields and hard courts for soccer, handball, high jump and basketball.

history

The Joseph-Bernhart-Gymnasium started its lessons in 1972 with three 5th grades and is still the only state high school in the Unterallgäu district.

On September 30, 2005, the second extension was opened in the south of the school, which offers space for four classes.

On September 7, 2008, a group of students set the European domino school record with 143,673 stones. On September 6, 2009, the group of students succeeded in setting a worldwide domino school record with 252 519 fallen stones. They also broke the previous Guinness world record with a 22.27 meter long domino wall .

Since the 2009/10 school year, the school has had lockers that students can rent annually from an external provider.

In the school years 2013/14 and 2014/15, the school building including the sports hall was extensively renovated. The outdoor facilities were also renovated in 2015/16 and 2019.

Partnerships and exchanges

Since 2001 there has been a school partnership with the grammar school and lyceum in Gostyń, Poland .

There are also exchanges with Oceanside ( USA ), Isbergues ( France ), Gostýn ( Poland ) and Dorchester ( Great Britain ), which usually take place annually.
