Joseph Altenkopf

Joseph Altenkopf (born January 26, 1818 in Vienna , † after 1868 probably in Eisenstadt ) was an Austrian landscape painter .

Life

As the son of a principal school principal , Altenkopf initially worked as a civil servant. However, this did not appeal to him, which is why he began a scientific career as a teacher, but broke it off after a short time and devoted himself to art. He painted landscapes as oil paintings , for which he became known. He also worked as director of an Esterházy gallery . In 1850 he exhibited his most famous works at the Austrian Art Association.

  2. In the first volume of the Biographisches Lexikons des Kaiserthums Oesterreich, published in 1856, Altenkopf is listed as still alive, Dorotheum.com ( [1] ) states that he died after 1857, artnet also speaks of a year of death around 1860.
