Joseph Areruya (born January 1, 1996 ) is a Rwandan cyclist.

Athletic career

In 2015 Joseph Areruya won the bronze medal in the team time trial at the Africa Games together with Valens Ndayisenga , Janvier Hadi and Jean Bosco Nsengimana and took second place in the overall ranking of the Tour of Rwanda . In 2016 he decided a stage of this tour for himself and the Circuit International de Constantine . The following year he received a contract with the Dimension Data team , won the Tour of Rwanda and a stage in the Baby Giro . He also won the bronze medal in the team time trial at the African road championships (with Samuel Mugisha , Valens Ndayisenga and Jean Bosco Nsengimana).

In 2018 Areruya won two medals at the African road championships , silver together with Adrien Niyonshuti , Valens Ndayisenga and Jean Bosco Nsengimana in the team time trial and bronze in the individual time trial . At the end of March of that year, Areruya left the Dimension Data team and moved to the French Delko Marseille Provence KTM . In June he became the Rwandan individual time trial champion. That year he also won the individual classification of the UCI Africa Tour . In 2019 he won bronze in the team time trial at the Africa Games and was again national champion in the individual time trial.

In 2018 Joseph Areruya was named “ Africa's Cyclist of the Year ”.
