Joseph Beaume

Joseph Beaume (born September 24, 1796 in Marseille , † September 10, 1885 in Paris ) was a French painter.

After an apprenticeship with Antoine-Jean Gros , he was first represented in the Salon de Paris in 1819 , with a biblical scene: Naftali and Rachel . Since then he has participated in almost all official exhibitions in Paris. In 1836 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . He died in 1885 and was buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.

Joseph Beaume mainly painted history pictures . Three of them are in the Musée national du Château de Versailles in the Palace of Versailles and are probably painted especially for this museum. He is also known for his numerous genre paintings .
