Joseph Bendersky

Joseph W. Bendersky , full Joseph William Bendersky (* 1946 ) is an American historian. Bendersky was best known as the biographer of the German constitutional lawyer Carl Schmitt .

Live and act

Bendersky earned a PhD from Michigan State University in 1975 . He currently teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond .

His main research interests are modern German history, anti-Semitism , the Holocaust and especially the legal scholar Carl Schmitt. A biography that Bendersky wrote about him has been translated into Italian and Japanese, among others.

In addition to his book publications, Bendersky has published articles for such journals as American Jewish History , Military History Journal , the Journal of Contemporary History , Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences, and Telos . In addition, he prepared an American translation of Carl Schmitt's legal theory work On the Three Types of Legal Thought (1934) and equipped it with a text-critical commentary.
