Joseph Carr (music publisher)

Joseph Carr (* 1739 in London , † October 27, 1819 in Baltimore ) was an American music publisher.

Carr ran a music publishing company on Middle Row in the London borough of Holborn. Here he introduced his sons Benjamin and Thomas Carr to music publishing, and he also gave his son Benjamin organ lessons. In 1794 he followed Benjamin to the USA and established himself as a music publisher in Baltimore, where he published works by European and American composers. The first edition of The Star-Spangled Banner appeared in his publishing house in 1814 . Between 1800 and 1804 he published the Musical Journal for the Piano Forte , from 1812 Can's Musical Miscellany .
