Joseph Clément Garnier
Joseph Clément Garnier (born October 3, 1813 in Beuil , County of Nice , † September 25, 1881 ) was a French economist . He is considered a representative of free trade .
Life
Garnier went to Paris in 1829, where he first became a pupil, then a professor and director of studies. After giving lectures at the Athénée royal for three years , he was appointed professor of economics at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in 1846 . In 1845 he took over the editing of the Journal des Économistes , which he co-founded in 1841 , which he continued until his death. After the victory of the Free Trade League founded by Richard Cobden , he founded the Association pour la liberté des échanges with Frédéric Bastiat , Michel Chevalier and others, and in 1842 he was involved in founding the Paris Société d'économie politique . In 1876 he was elected senator by his home constituency.
