Joseph Deters (born May 21, 1887 in Handrup ; † February 13, 1958 ibid) was a German left-Catholic politician during the Weimar Republic .

Deters, who was a Catholic denomination, founded the Association of Christian Wage Employees, Small Farmers and Tenants (VCH) in 1919 . The conflicts over the employment contracts (see Heuerlingswesen ) led to a considerable influx of VCH, which then decided to hire Deters as a full-time manager in early 1920. Heinrich Kuhr became chairman of the association .

In 1920 the Emsland hiring workers felt politically neglected by the Center Party due to the strong presence of large farmers in the regional management bodies. Deters ran in the constituency of Lingen in the provincial state elections on February 21, 1921 on a separate list of "hirers" and was elected to the provincial parliament of the province of Hanover . Deters founded the left- wing Catholic splinter party Christian-Social People's Community with Franz Hüskes . Under the leadership of Deters, the party became the second strongest party in the Emsland in the Reichstag elections of May 1924 , but a mandate in the Reichstag was not achieved. In 1925, the Christian Social People's Community joined theChristian Social Reich Party .
