Life

Joseph Dietsche was born in Dogern near Waldshut in 1708. In 1732 he married Maria Elisabeth Metzger in Tiengen. Joseph Dietsche created several sandstone sculptures for fountains and bridges in the Upper Rhine region . The fountain sculptures of St. Joseph and Immaculate have been preserved in Tiengen. In 1734 he made the statue of Mary for the main fountain in front of the town hall for Waldshut. The statue of Mary from the fountain that was demolished in 1862 is now placed on the Seltenbach Bridge. A statue of Nepomuk, created for Neuenburg am Rhein in 1739 and placed in front of the hospital, was replaced by a copy in 1977. The original is kept in the local city history museum. Joseph Dietsche probably died on April 18, 1752 as a result of an accident in Tiengen.
