Joseph Dubiel

Joseph Dubiel (born June 23, 1955 in Secaucus , New Jersey ) is an American composer , music theorist and music journalist .

Life

Dubiel studied from 1974 to 1980 at Princeton University ( Ph.D. ) He then taught at Princeton and the University of Pittsburgh . Since 1990 he has been professor of music theory at Columbia University , whose music faculty he headed from 2005 to 2008. 1992 won the SMT Young Scholar Award and the Guggenheim Fellowship . From 1995 to 1999 he was editor of the journal Perspectives of New Music and co-founder of the SMT Music and Philosophy Study Group. He also composed vocal and chamber music .
