Joseph Gao Hong-xiao

Joseph Gao Hong-xiao OFM ( Chinese  高 宏 效 , * 1945 ) is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kaifeng , People's Republic of China .

Life

He was ordained a Catholic Priest of the Franciscan Order and served in the Fengxiang Diocese of Shaanxi Province .

He was ordained Coadjutor Bishop of Kaifeng on January 1, 2005 . Previously, on October 27, 2000, another priest, Antonius Zong Changfeng, was ordained coadjutor bishop in Zhouzhi, also in Shaanxi, but when the authorities refused him, he did not move to Kaifeng. So he had to keep working - as if he were a regular priest - in Zhouzhi . Since he belonged to the underground church, he also had to stay hidden regularly. In addition, Bishop Gao had to stay in hiding.

On September 23, 2007, Kaifeng's Underground Bishop John Baptist Liang Xi-sheng died at the age of 84, and Bishop Gao automatically succeeded him.
