The Archdiocese of Kaifeng ( Latin Archidioecesis Chaefomensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Kaifeng in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Benedict XV founded with the Breve Summa afficimur laetitia the Apostolic Vicariate Osthenan on September 21, 1916 from cedings of territory from the Apostolic Vicariats South and North Hhenan . It took the name, Apostolic Vicariate Kaifeng , on December 3, 1924. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was elevated to the Metropolitan Archbishopric on April 11, 1946 .

On August 31, 1989, secret bishop John Baptist Liang Xi-sheng was consecrated; he died on September 23, 2007, followed by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Gao Hong-xiao OFM, who was ordained bishop on January 1, 2005. Official Bishop Stephen He Chun-ming died in 1986 and was succeeded seven years later by Stanislaus Han Dao-yi on September 23, 1993, who died on October 27, 2000. Since then the official diocese has been without a local ordinary .
