Joseph Joubert (Jesuit)

Joseph Joubert (born October 22, 1640 in Donzère ; † February 20, 1719 in Lyon ) was a French Jesuit, classical philologist, Romanist and lexicographer.

life and work

Joubert entered the Jesuit order in 1656 and became prefect and Latin teacher at the Collège de la Trinité (now Collège-lycée Ampère ) in Lyon. In 1709 he published a rich French-Latin dictionary, which was printed by 1757.
