Joseph Levi

Joseph Levi ( February 18, 1865 in Freudental in Württemberg - June 1, 1930 in Krefeld ) was a German rabbi. He worked in Alzey and Krefeld.

Life

Joseph Levi attended the Königliche Karlsgymnasium in Heilbronn. From 1884 he studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau . At the same time he attended the lectures of the philosophical faculty of the Wroclaw University . January 1888 he received his doctorate at the University of Tübingen . In 1890 and 1891 he completed his military service in Munich. In 1891 he was elected Grand Ducal District Rabbi of Alzey. In 1904 he became chief rabbi in Krefeld. This honorary title came from the time of the Krefeld Consistory . He was the successor to Dr. Jakob Horowitz. At the end of 1927, Joseph Levi resigned from office for health reasons. He passed away two years later.

Joseph Levi was married to Clara Berta Stein. The couple had two children, son Alfred (* 1897) and daughter Ella (* 1899).
