Life, study and work

Lipburger was born in Andelsbuch as the second child of Kaspar Lipburger and his wife Maria Hartmann from the Bregenzerwald . The marriage resulted in a total of four children, the first-born Anton (1752) and the third-born Johannes (1754) and Franz Xaver (1762). Anton Mätzler , cathedral chapter in Augsburg, was his cousin .

In 1775 he joined the Carthusian Order and took the religious name Peter . He subsequently became prior of the Buxheim monastery . After the dissolution of the monastery in Buxheim and after Lipburger's efforts to restore the charterhouse were unsuccessful, he ensured that parts of the monastery library and other capital were transferred to Vorarlberg and (later) to the Vorarlberg state library and the Ittingen Charterhouse.

Lipburger is buried in the Ittingen monastery cemetery.
