Anton Mätzler

Anton Mätzler (born July 25, 1780 in Andelsbuch , Vorarlberg , † June 30, 1857 in Augsburg ) was a Roman Catholic theologian and writer.

Life

Anton Mätzler was born as the son of the Andelsbuch locksmith Anton Mätzler and his wife Maria Meusburger. Mätzler was a cousin of Joseph Lipburger , prior of the Buxheim monastery and the Ittingen Charterhouse .

Study / activity

Mätzler studied Catholic theology in Innsbruck , Linz , Freiburg im Breisgau , and most recently in Meersburg . In 1802 he was appointed priest ordained . Mätzler now became a pastor in Grossdorf and Langenegg . Since he stood out there for his pedagogical skills, he was appointed district school inspector in 1807, at the age of only 27. In 1810 he was transferred to Opfenbach as a pastor . He was later elected to the Chamber of Deputies , the second chamber of the Bavarian Estates Assembly. Mätzler became dean of the Weiler rural chapter in 1821. In 1835 he was appointed cathedral capitular in Augsburg and a clerical council . In 1841 Mätzler finally became vicar general . As such, he had the special confidence of Peter von Richarz , the bishop of Augsburg.

Mätzler was also active as a writer and, in addition to sermons, wrote numerous edification books .
