Joseph Marius Jean Avy
Joseph Marius Jean Avy (born September 21, 1871 in Marseille , † December 29, 1939 in Paris ) was a French genre, landscape, mural and pastel painter and illustrator.
Avy came from a merchant family. He studied painting in the studios of Albert Maignan and Léon Bonnat in Paris. After completing his studies, he went on a study trip to Italy , where he painted landscapes.
He exhibited his works from 1900 to 1939 at the Salon of French Artists and from 1934 to 1939 at the National Gallery of Fine Arts.
He received the Marie Bashkirtseff Prize in 1900 . He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1937 and was awarded the Croix de Guerre .
He married Germaine, daughter of Albert Besnard, in 1909 . He helped his father-in-law with the paintings in the dome of the Petit Palais .
He married for the second time on May 12, 1939 and died six months later.
