Joseph Marschall (born June 23, 1865 in Plainpalais ; died October 17, 1924 in Geneva ) was a Swiss architect .

Life

Marschall studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva from 1879 to 1872 and then worked with André Bourdillon and the Camoletti brothers . From 1892 he taught drawing and architectural ornamentation at the École des Beaux-Arts and at the Collège, from 1899 also at the École des Arts industriels. During this time he also built his own projects, such as the design of the Quai du Mont-Blanc (1894), the Plainpalais schoolhouse (1905) and the community hall there (1909). His works were already controversial among contemporaries, they are characterized as a mix of styles of historicism, Swiss chalet style, art and home style, for example the parish hall with its neo-baroque entrance in front of an arched facade, the window and door openings influenced by Art Nouveau and the complicated roof in Appenzell style.
