Joseph Osiander

Joseph Osiander (born January 16, 1589 in Güglingen , † December 10, 1635 in Esslingen ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

The youngest son of Lucas Osiander the Elder had attended the University of Tübingen after school and in 1608 acquired the academic degree of Master of Philosophy. He then completed a degree in theology and became a repetiteur at the Tübinger Stift . In 1611 he became a deacon in Göppingen , in 1615 pastor in Bitterfeld , in 1616 superintendent in Balingen and in 1633 abbot in Blaubeuren monastery . After the battle of Nördlingen , he had to leave the abbey in 1634. He first went to Ulm , then to Esslingen to see his son-in-law, where he died of a stroke.

Osiander was married twice. His first marriage was with Ursula, the daughter of Oswald Gabelkhover. His second marriage was with Sophia, the daughter of the Augsburg preacher David Pistorius.
