Joseph Owen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph Owen (* 1720 in England , † May 13, 1790 in the convict colony Australia ) was 68 years old when he arrived on January 28, 1788 on the Friendship , one of the 11 ships of the First Fleet , in the convict colony. He was the oldest male convict to ever arrive in this English colony.

Little is known about his life. He was married to Mary Owen.

When he arrived, Joseph Owen was no longer of working age. He died at a time when there was a great famine in the colony. This famine could only be alleviated after the arrival of the ship Justinian on June 20, 1790. It was found post mortem that Owen had died of malnutrition in May.
