Joseph Renker

Joseph Renker (born July 15, 1933 in Nuremberg ; † January 5, 2018 in Eichstätt ) was a German theologian , religious educator and Catholic clergyman .

Joseph Renker initially completed an apprenticeship as a banker and was involved in Catholic youth work. He entered a late career seminar in Fürstenried and completed his Abitur. After studying theology 1958-1964 at the seminary in Bamberg he received in the Bamberg Cathedral , the on March 8, 1964 ordination . He was a chaplain in Erlangen and in Hof. After studying for a doctorate in moral theology, pastoral theology, church history and art history in Munich, he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. In 1973 he was appointed to the professorship for theory and practice of church community work at the Faculty for Religious Education / Church Educational Work at what was then Eichstätt University, now the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . He was the dean of two faculties. During his professorship, Renker trained around 2,000 students, religion teachers and community officers. In 1993 Renker retired.

Since 1977 Renker was pastor for the parish Egweil / Attenfeld (with the rights of a pastor); He also looked after the neighboring parishes of Nassenfels and Wolkertshofen . He wrote a comprehensive local history of Egweil and initiated the renovation and reconstruction of the historic rectory of Egweil. The Egweil community honored him with honorary citizenship. He had lived in the old forester's house in Weißenkirchen for over 40 years.

For many years he was involved in the Ayopaya mission group in Bolivia and was its president from 1979 to 1994. For his work he was honored with the episcopal title of Spiritual Councilor .
