Bietingen is a village with around 1,150 inhabitants in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg . The municipality of Bietingen, which was independent until 1974, is now part of the municipality of Gottmadingen .

geography

Bietingen is located on the western edge of the Hegau on the border with Switzerland , about halfway between the cities of Schaffhausen and Singen (Hohentwiel) . The hilly area around Bietingen is characterized by fields and meadows, to the east and south-west of the village there are smaller forest areas. The beaver flows through Bietingen on its way to the Rhine . The Bibertal is used by two traffic routes: by the Hochrheinbahn and the federal highway 34 (part of the Europastraße 54 ) with the second largest road border crossing between Germany and Switzerland after Weil am Rhein / Basel as part of the connection Stuttgart - Zurich .

history

About 1100 m west of the village church are the remains of the Kapf hill fort in a wooded area . Whether it is a Neolithic, Bronze Age or Urnfield Age castle has not yet been clarified. Bietingen first appeared in a document in 892 as villa quadicitur Puatinga . The monasteries of St. Blasien in the Black Forest and Rheinau owned real estate in Bietingen early on. The city of Schaffhausen acquired part of it in the 17th century. The lords of the castle of Stoffeln were from the 14th century to 1579 as bailiffs of the monasteries St. Blasien and Petershausen, the lords of Bietingen, interrupted by a short period of pledging to the Teutonic Order Coming on Mainau in the 16th century. From 1579 until the mediatization in 1806, Bietingen fell to the Hornstein family through the division of inheritance . In 1806 the village first came to Württemberg and from 1810 to Baden . In 1974 it was incorporated into Gottmadingen .

Attractions

St. Gallus Church

The parish church of St. Gallus in Bietingen is a modern church building from the years 1956/1957. Only the late Gothic tower from 1498 was taken over from the previous building.

Bietingen Castle is in the middle of the village. It is surrounded by a park. The palace and park are privately owned and not accessible. The castle was built for Ferdinand Maria von Hornstein from 1720 onwards. The plans came from the builder and Lieutenant Johannes Dobler vom Hohentwiel . In 1897 the two-story castle with a gable roof was subjected to a historicizing renovation: it was given a stepped gable with battlements.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until the 1960s, Bietingen was largely rural. There are still some full-time farmers in the village today, as well as a nursery with a tree nursery. In a small industrial area in the east of Bietingen, the company Birgit Toth Metallveredelung und Maschinenhandel e. K. resident; also a kitchen and furniture studio. Many residents are cross-border commuters in the nearby Swiss countryside. Bietingen has a discounter and a gas station and several inns. The educational offers are limited to a kindergarten and a primary school; secondary schools are located in Gottmadingen .

The Hochrheinbahn runs on the northern edge of the village with a stop in Bietingen. The federal highway 34 from Singen to Schaffhausen also bypasses Bietingen in the north. Another road connection is via Randegg to Gailingen am Hochrhein . Local public transport is guaranteed by the SBG Radolfzell buses .
