Joseph Rozier

Joseph Jean Marie Rozier (born June 5, 1924 in Murat-le-Quaire , Puy-de-Dôme department ; baptized in Bournemouth on June 8, 1924, † June 11, 1994 in Poitiers ) was Bishop of Poitiers .

His father was Michael Rozier and his mother was Margaret Rozier Sauvat. Joseph Rozier studied theology and philosophy and was ordained a priest on September 28, 1947 . From 1966 to 1971 he was Vicar General of Bishop Pierre-Abel-Louis Chappot de la Chanonie . On May 10, 1971 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Clermont and titular bishop of Maximiana in Numidia . The episcopal ordination on September 26, 1966 was presided over by Alexandre-Charles Renard . He was then coadjutor between 1973 and 1975 and finally Bishop of Poitiers from July 5, 1975 until his death.

Joseph Rozier became known for his commitment to peace and his role as a mediator between religions. He was considered a critic of the National Front and the Second Gulf War .

Joseph Rozier died in 1994 of an unspecified viral disease after a trip to Brazil .
