Joseph Sistrom

Joseph Sistrom (born August 7, 1912 in Chicago , † April 7, 1966 in Los Angeles ) was an American film producer .

Life

After graduating from Stanford University , Joseph Sistrom initially worked as an assistant to film producer Pandro S. Berman . He then came to Perlberg-Capra Productions, with whom he appeared for Columbia Pictures as production assistant for Frank Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington ( Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , 1939). That same year he co-produced the Columbia film The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt with Ida Lupino and Rita Hayworth . In the early 1940s he moved to Paramount Pictures , where William LeBaron took him under his wing. Sistrom subsequently produced the war film Wake Island (1943) and Billy Wilder's film noir classic Woman Without a Conscience ( Double Indemnity , 1944). He received an Oscar nomination in the Best Picture category for both productions . His last production, Pocketful of Miracles ( Pocketful of Miracles , 1961) with Bette Davis and Glenn Ford , was like the beginning of his career as a producer, a film by director Frank Capra. Joseph Sistrom died in Los Angeles in 1966 at the age of 53 .
