Not vital

Not Vital (born February 15, 1948 in Sent GR ) is a Swiss artist in the fields of graphics , painting , sculpture and architecture .

Life

Not Vital was born in Sent in the Swiss Lower Engadine in 1948 . He came into closer contact with art through the resident art historian Max Huggler . 1968–1969 he studied at the Center universitaire expérimental de Vincennes in Paris. The first three-dimensional works were created in the 1980s.

Vital's works - in various techniques and across genres - are shown in major museums and galleries as well as in public spaces around the world. In his Parkin Not dal mot in Sent, for example, Donkey Bridge, Tower of Silence, Ice House and more are installed .

His Not Vital Foundation (fundaziun Not Vital) in Ardez aims to bring prints from the 17th and 18th centuries back to their area of origin as part of a Rhaeto-Romanic library. The foundation also includes an art collection with works by Not Vital and others.

In 2010 he took part in the competition to redesign the chancel of St. Gallen Cathedral . For the Mobimo Tower in Zurich, completed in 2011 , he won the Art-et-Architecture competition with his No Problem Sculpture .

In March 2016, Not Vital acquired Tarasp Castle from the Hessen family .

He lives and works in the Lower Engadine, Beijing and Agadez , and previously also in New York .
