Josephsburg (Munich)

Josephsburg is a district of the Bavarian capital, Munich, in the Berg am Laim district .

history

The place was created in 1693 by Elector Joseph Clemens of Cologne , brother of Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria . In 1701 the town was named after its builder. At the end of the 17th century, Joseph Clemens had a residence built and set up a chapel dedicated to the Archangel Michael in it .

With the community edict , Berg am Laim was raised to an independent community in 1818 and Josephsburg became part of this community.

On July 1, 1913, Josephsburg was incorporated into Munich as part of the Berg am Laim community.

In Berg am Laim, Josephburgstrasse is a reminder of the former hamlet .
