Josias Habrecht

Josias Habrecht (* 1552 in Schaffhausen , † 1575 in Kaiserswerth ) was a Swiss watchmaker and musical instrument maker .

Life and accomplishments

Habrecht was born as the son of the watchmaker Joachim Habrecht . He completed his watchmaker's apprenticeship with his father in Schaffhausen.

In 1570 Habrecht and his older brother Isaak went to Strasbourg , where they helped create the second clock for the Strasbourg cathedral . Habrecht left Strasbourg a year before the cathedral clock was completed, first went to Zurich for a short time , where he married, and then to Kaiserswerth. Here he was supposed to build a tower clock for the castle of Cologne's Archbishop and Elector Salentin von Isenburg , but before the work on it was finished, Habrecht died at the age of 23.
