Josias Just

Josias Just (born July 19, 1953 in Andeer , Canton of Graubünden ) is a Swiss clarinetist , music teacher , composer and arranger .

Josias Just studied at the Lucerne Conservatory with Giambattista Sisini , where he graduated in 1979 with a teaching diploma and in 1981 with a soloist diploma. Further studies followed with Alfred Prinz in Vienna (Vienna Philharmonic). Also in 1981 he obtained his diploma as a professional brass music conductor at the Lucerne Conservatory. Josias Just has been principal clarinet with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra (ZKO) since 1987; he also performs regularly as a soloist with other orchestras. He also played with various orchestras a. a. under the direction of E. de Stoutz, O. Elts, H. Griffiths, B. Haitink, Sir R. Norrington, M. Tang, with whom he also made CD recordings. Josias Just is a sought-after chamber music partner and has given concerts a. a. with E. Gruberova, H. Holliger and A. Chumachenco. He is equally interested in unknown classical and romantic works as well as modern music. He has premiered various works by the Swiss composers Gion Antony Derungs , Peter Escher , P. Bernary and Caspar Diethelm .

In 1979 Josias Just received the sponsorship award of the canton of Graubünden and in 2010 the recognition award of the canton of Graubünden for his outstanding achievements as a solo clarinetist and chamber musician at national and international level.

Josias Just is a lecturer in didactics at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and music teacher at the Zurich Conservatory Music School (MKZ) as well as at the music school and the cantonal school in Chur. He is the artistic director of Guarda Cultura, a concert series at the Hotel Guarda Val, Lenzerheide, as well as director and lecturer of the annual international chamber music week for clarinet, violin, viola and piano in Schiers (Canton of Graubünden).

Josias Just has been a member of the Ländlerkapelle Oberalp and music teacher for folk music since 1973 . He deals intensively with the history of folk music. In 2008 he received the Folk Music Prize of the Canton of Graubünden.
