The journal was a measure of area in Brittany in north-west France and corresponded to the morning or day's work.

In Nancy the measure was determined to be 25,000 Lorraine square feet and that was 19,446 French square feet.

In some Swiss cantons, such as Valais , Vaud and Geneva , Journal was the middle name for the pose , a field measure of about 27.013 ares.
