The Journal of Book Printing, Type Foundry, and Allied Subjects was a magazine also known as the Journal of Book Printing . The trade journal for book printing and type foundries was published in 86 volumes from July 1834 to December 1919, partly without counting initially in the publishing house of Johann Heinrich Meyer in Braunschweig , who founded this series. The first editions were also printed by JH Laarmann in Amsterdam. Later the journal for book printing was produced in Groß-Lichterfelde near Schlotke and most recently in Berlin-Lichterfelde near Unverdorben .

Publisher and frequency of publication

The editor was Johann Heinrich Meyer (1834–1863), only 22 years old, who founded the paper and apparently correctly assessed the interests of publishers and the dynamic development of the book and printing industry. Subsequently by Theodor Goebe (1871–1979), Hermann Smalian (1879–1881), Ferdinand Schlotke (1881–1901) and from 1901 to 1919 Otto Schlotke. One of the editors was Albert Hoffmann before he switched to the paper newspaper published by Carl Hofmann .

The first issues appeared as monthly magazines in 12 issues a year. The edition was 400 copies. From 1845 there were 24 issues, each published in two half-monthly issues. Finally the number of copies rose to 1200 copies so that the issues appeared weekly from 1860 onwards. Johann Heinrich Meyer had designed the contents of the booklet in such a way that, in addition to the latest innovations, it offered practical information and historical aspects on the technology of the printing company, the pressing processes or the development of typefaces. In addition, topics such as freedom of the press and socio-political developments in the industry were also dealt with. There were numerous illustrations of the printing technique as well as writing and printing samples, some of which were added as enclosures. From 1886 the journal became the official organ of the "German Book Printer Cooperative" and the "German Book Printer Association". The sheet went up in December 1919 in the series of German book and stone printers .
